RS Tera
calcActive())">
At Proasail.com we suggest the RS Tera as the youth sailing dinghy in which a child learns to sail and, if the racing bug bites, can go all the way to international competition without changing hull.Designed by Paul Handley for RS Sailing, it is a lively, fast single-hander. Everything about it is designed to make learning safe and simple. After a capsize it is easy to right and the cockpit is dry again. Young sailors rig it without fuss. And the rotomoulded hull stands up to daily sailing-school use. With three sail sizes (Minisail, Sport and Pro) the boat grows with the sailor, which is why it is chosen by beginners, youth racers and their parents alike: a modern alternative to the Optimist.

Exciting and safe
- Responsive in light winds and, as soon as the breeze picks up, it planes with ease.
- A balanced, stable boat that is simple to steer.
- If it capsizes, it is easy to right and the self-draining cockpit clears the water by itself.
- The student progresses quickly with a boat that rarely gets stuck in irons.
- The foredeck and aft deck are designed so the sailor finds the right position aboard by themselves.
- Modern, attractive lines that young sailors like.
- More protection for the sailor's head: the boom is high and carries a padded cover.
More convenient
- A child rigs it quickly and without fuss.
- With a 43 kg hull, children launch it without an adult's help.
- Light and compact: it travels on the car roof rack (check your maximum roof load) and stores in little space.
More versatile
- Small enough for a 30 kg child to steer.
- And with scope to keep sailing it up to a sailor weight of 70 kg.
- With room for two small children to sail at once.
- On calm days, the optional rowing kit lets you keep getting out on the water.
- Dual character: stable for the beginner and lively performance for the expert racer.
Minimum maintenance – great durability
- Hull built in Comptec PE3, RS Sailing's three-layer rotomoulding system.
- Each layer has a job: the outer one takes the knocks, the foam layer in the middle stiffens the whole and the robust inner skin completes the structure.
- RS's rotomoulding process allows different thicknesses by area, with more material where the hull carries more load.
- That optimises the overall weight and the boat gains in performance and handling.
- Unsinkable: the foam core gives the hull itself buoyancy.
- Fittings are fixed to brass inserts moulded into the hull structure.
- Virtually zero maintenance.
World Sailing International Class
- One boat from the sailing school to international racing.
- The class puts fun first, on the water and ashore, among the top-level racers too.
- Its goal: to get children hooked on sailing and keep that passion for life.
RS Tera Sport
- The version designed for youngsters from 30 kg.
- 3.7 m² Dacron mainsail, semi-battened with vertical battens, which can be reefed.
- Shares its mast with the Tera Pro.
- For storage, the sail rolls around the mast.
RS Tera Pro
- For youngsters and lighter adults from 40 kg.
- 4.8 m² fully battened Mylar mainsail, with full-length battens.
- A light rig with plenty of power.
- The mast is the same as on the Sport version.
- To move up a level you only change the sail, not the boat.
