RS Neo

At Proasail.com we suggest the RS Neo to anyone looking for a single-handed sailing dinghy that is easy to handle, delivers real performance and is built to last thanks to its rotomoulded hull. It serves a private owner and a sailing school equally well. Designed by Paul Handley and RS Sailing, it sits halfway between a beginner boat and the high-performance single-handers: it gives you the feel of a fast boat with far less demanded of you. Accessible and comfortable, it is ideal for learning and for continuing to improve; in youth dinghy sailing, a logical step after the beginner boat. It is easy and fun to sail, and its price keeps it within reach of many budgets. The recipe: a stable, robust hull, a carbon composite mast and boom, and a 6 m² radial-cut Dacron mainsail.

Sophisticated rig

  • The mast is carbon composite: light and quick to respond.
  • It splits into two sections that stow inside the hull itself for the car journey.
  • Easy to rig.
  • In a gust the rig responds dynamically: the boat picks up speed and becomes easier to handle.
  • The 6 m² mainsail is radial cut in Dacron: a cloth that stands up well to the years and a sail that is easy to master.
  • Powerful controls to match sail trim to the sailor's weight and the conditions.

Easy-to-use hull

  • Steering it is simple, and it feels responsive and performs well.
  • The waterline beam is generous, which translates into more stability.
  • Enough volume to go out single-handed or with two people aboard.
  • The gunwale is wide, and its benefits are apparent both while sailing, because less water comes into the cockpit, and after a capsize, because the boat takes less effort to right.

Durability

  • Comptec PE3 polyethylene sandwich hull, RS Sailing's rotomoulding system.
  • RS Sailing does not skimp on material quality.
  • An outer skin that shrugs off impacts.
  • Variable thickness: more material where the hull carries more load.
  • That control of thickness optimises the boat's weight and improves its performance.
  • The underside of the hull carries wear strips against abrasion.
  • The fitting anchor points are not added afterwards: they are built into the hull during rotomoulding, which is why they hold up better.
  • Hardly any maintenance.

Class-leading cockpit

  • Self-draining cockpit.
  • Its ergonomic shape makes sailing more comfortable.
  • Designed for single-handed sailing, though with room for two.
  • Stepping and securing the mast takes very little time thanks to its quick system.
  • The controls stay within the sailor's reach while sailing: they are adjusted on the go.
  • Padded toe straps.

Versatile

  • Just as at home launching from the beach as from the club slipway.
  • Good for sailing at your own pace and for racing round the cans.
  • Fits on the roof rack of many cars.
  • Little maintenance and a few minutes to rig: you spend your time sailing rather than preparing the boat.
