RS 200

At Proasail.com we recommend the RS 200 to moderate-weight crews who want to race seriously without giving up the social side of dinghy sailing: couples, mixed crews, youth sailors and families all sail it in club racing, at championships and on the RS Racing Circuit. Designed by Phil Morrison, it was one of RS Sailing's first boats and remains one of the most popular two-person racing dinghies today. Its strict one-design rules have two welcome effects: the cost of racing stays under control and races are decided by very small margins. On the start line you will find top-level racers alongside people sailing their first ever race, a mix found in few other classes, and afterwards everyone shares the RS community atmosphere.

Growing class

  • On the RS Racing Circuit, the RS 200 combines a high standard of racing with a very lively social scene.
  • The fleets are big, and with them come tactical races and tight finishes.
  • A fast pace and a good dose of adrenaline.
  • Ideal crew profile: moderate weight.
  • Very popular with couples and young racers.

Hull

  • The cockpit is deep and roomy: two conditions for helm and crew to hike without discomfort.
  • The toe straps adjust in two directions: height and reach.
  • In light winds, the crew finds a comfortable seat on the centre thwart.
  • After a capsize, the open transom empties the cockpit almost by itself; the self-bailer moulded into the hull quickly clears the rest.
  • An enormously strong hull laminate: the boat stays competitive for many years.
  • The layout of the fittings suits any combination of strength and experience between helm and crew.
  • Hoisting or dropping the spinnaker, tensioning the cunningham or the kicker: either crew member can take charge of these key manoeuvres.
  • Top-quality fittings.

Foils

  • Pivoting centreboard and kick-up rudder: launching and recovering the boat is simple.
  • Both foils are built in glass fibre (GRP) sandwich with a foam core: light, stiff and high-performance.

Rig

  • The rig design lets you control the power, which widens the crew weight range over which the boat can be raced competitively.
  • Excellent behaviour whatever the wind conditions.
  • The mainsail is Mylar with soft full-length battens: less flogging and a longer sail life, yet it still depowers when the boat stops.
  • In light winds, a Dacron jib is easier to read. And the sheets carry so little load that the boat is fun for lighter crew members too.
  • Asymmetric spinnaker with a single-line system: the same halyard hoists it and drops it.

Optional accessories

  • Harken deck fittings
  • Continuous 16:1 kicker
  • Capsize righting lines
  • Breathable polycotton top cover
  • Under cover (nylon)
  • Launching trolley
  • Road trailer base
